Katie is passionate about connecting writers with their readers. Whether it’s doing an in-depth edit, giving detailed feedback on a single document or evaluating a whole suite of communications, she loves helping clients to lift the standard of their professional communications.

Some highlights from her work with the Foundation include:

  • completing Verbumetric® writing evaluations that have sparked organisation-wide plain English reforms
  • developing report templates to streamline a major NSW agency’s planning processes
  • overhauling a rules and procedures guide for Year 12 students
  • developing template letters that clearly but sensitively advise readers of the outcome of an investigation, appeal or application
  • editing a web resource that equips community service workers to prepare their clients for emergencies.  

Her clients include the federal Department of Human Services, the National Transport Commission, the Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet, the NSW Department of Education and NSW Health.

She has also worked with smaller not-for-profit organisations, such as Ability Options, Sylvanvale and SGCH.

Before joining the Foundation, Katie was a development editor at an educational publisher. She worked on textbooks and online courses for students of nursing, psychology, education and sociology.

  • Bachelor of Arts in English and Art History (University of Sydney)

Activities

Katie was on the judging panel for WriteMark's 2015 and 2017 Plain English Awards. She judged entries in the People's Choice categories of Best Plain English Communication and Worst Brainstrain Communication.

Katie is a member of PLAIN and keeps up with the latest developments in plain language. She also attends Editors NSW events.
