Katie Kearns

Editor/Production Editor

Whether doing an in-depth edit, giving detailed feedback on an individual document or evaluating a whole suite of communications, Katie loves helping writers connect with their readers.

Some highlights from her work with the Foundation include:

  • Verbumetric® writing evaluations that have sparked agency-wide plain English reforms
  • report templates that streamlined a major NSW agency's planning processes
  • a substantive plain English overhaul of an essential guide for students
  • template letters that clearly but sensitively advise readers of the outcome of an investigation, appeal or application
  • an in-depth edit of a web resource that equips community service workers to prepare their clients for emergencies.

Katie has worked with clients such as the Department of Human Services, NSW Health, and the Department of Premier and Cabinet, Victoria. She has also enjoyed working with smaller not-for-profit organisations, such as Ability Options and Sylvanvale.

Before joining the Foundation, Katie was a development editor at an educational publisher. She worked on textbooks and online courses for university students.
