Stephen Howat

Formal writing…means clean, clear, maximally considerate writing.

David Foster Wallace

Stephen is inspired by the direct link between clear writing and clear thinking. His experience has confirmed the transformative effect of plain English on workplace culture. Accessibility, transparency and accountability are the result of a commitment to clear communication.

He’s a plain English expert and a versatile trainer. Since joining our team, Stephen has trained a diverse client base across the country, including City of Gold Coast, the Department of Justice and Community Safety, Victoria, the Office of the Auditor General in Western Australia and the Auditor-General’s Department in South Australia. He’s also trained AMP and TAL.

Stephen particularly enjoys running some of our more specialised training events, such as Writing Cabinet Submissions and Masterclasses in Reviewing.

Participants appreciate his deep knowledge of history and language, which provides a rewarding and entertaining training experience. His occasional humour gets a mention too.
