Personal information rights

Understanding your rights

Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have certain rights relating to your personal information.

You have the right to:

  • confirm if your personal data is being processed
  • ask for a copy of your personal data
  • change or erase your personal data
  • restrict or object to its processing
  • raise a concern with a supervisory authority
  • any available information about where we obtained your personal data (if we didn’t collect it from you).

You also have the right to receive information about the data processing, including:

  • the reason for the processing
  • the categories of personal data
  • who will receive the data or who it has been disclosed to (including recipients in other countries) and the safeguards in place
  • how long the data is kept and any criteria used to decide this
  • any automated decision-making, how decisions are made, and any consequences of this processing.

Making a request

If you wish to do any of the above, write to our Data Protection Officer at info@plainenglishfoundation.com and specify the data you would like to access. You will need to provide evidence of your identity.

When reviewing your request, we will consider the rights of third parties, including their data protection rights, trade secrets and intellectual property rights. Wherever possible, we will try to meet your request, while protecting others’ rights and freedoms.

However, we may refuse your request if we can prove that your request is manifestly unfounded or excessive.

After assessing your request, we will either:

  • provide the information to you in writing
  • tell you what action we have taken (if you asked us to change or erase your data)
  • explain our reasons for refusing your request.

If you asked us to erase your data, we will explain the implications of doing so. For example, if we delete your email address before you attend a training course with us, we may not be able to contact you to give you access to our materials.

If your request is about updating or erasing personally identifiable information (PII), we will review it in all business systems.

If you are a staff member you can access and manage your own PII in Employment Hero.
