Simplifying law and saving money in the UK HM Revenue & Customs

The UK tax office, HM Revenue & Customs, began a plain English rewrite of key tax legisation in 1996. A 2009 progress report found the office is saving an estimated £70 million a year on administration costs after initially investing £3 million in the project. This demonstrates the large potential returns from investing in plain English projects.
