When the Department of Veterans Affairs launched its Writing for Real People program it rewrote a standard letter in plain English. In 1 year, the department:

  • had an 83% drop in phone enquiries about the letter—down from 1,128 to just 192 calls
  • achieved estimated savings of over $40,000.
